What happens when students suddenly become real developers?

At erfi, we had the chance to find out firsthand as part of the NWT cooperation project 2025 with Kepler-Gymnasium Freudenstadt – and one thing quickly became clear: technology inspires. Especially when you get to shape it yourself.

At the heart of the project was the development of a smart irrigation system based on the Raspberry Pi – a topic with both technical and ecological relevance. The students planned, designed, programmed, tested – and in the process, learned not only about sensors, software, and system integration, but also about teamwork, communication, and perseverance.
Or as one student perfectly summed it up at the final event on May 20, 2025 at Campus Schwarzwald:

“Even though not everything worked out perfectly, we still learned a lot about technology – and about life.”

For us as a company, it was truly impressive to see the motivation, creativity, and solution-oriented mindset the project teams brought to their work. In close collaboration with our employees, the students gained hands-on insights into real-world technical workflows – experiences that are often missing in everyday school life, yet are crucial for career orientation.

Why do we get involved?
Because we firmly believe: early practical experiences are the key to inspiring young people for technology.

The project was not only a great success for the participating students – but also a true highlight of the year for us as a company.

We thank Kepler-Gymnasium Freudenstadt for the trusting partnership and look forward to many more joint projects in the future.

Education is the beginning of innovation - erfi makes it possible.
