Innovative e-mobility demands intelligent testing processes – and that’s exactly where our current project comes in.
erfi Ernst Fischer GmbH + Co. KG was commissioned by NIO GmbH to deliver and integrate a state-of-the-art test bench for their Electric Drive and HV System development team in Munich.
At the heart of the project is a tailor-made test solution for high-voltage components that meets the demanding technical and safety requirements of developing forward-looking e-mobility applications. Based on the modular elneos connect workstation series and the latest elneos six device series, the complete system offers a fully integrated solution — from power supply and measurement technology to safety architecture and test software.
System Overview:
Robust, ESD-compliant laboratory aluminum tables with integrated test hoods and modular design.
Two powerful, bidirectional power supplies:
1200 V / ±40 A / 18 kW
100 V / ±360 A / 12 kW
Fully pre-configured 19-inch racks with well-thought-out connection architecture.
Supplemented by the elneos six dual power supply (2× 0–32 V / 5 A) including integrated digital multimeter, power meter, and 40 MHz dual function generator for versatile test applications.
Complete wiring to test object connectors integrated into the table design.
The plexiglass test hood is gas spring-assisted and equipped with a safety switch: when opened, the high-voltage and high-current technology is automatically deactivated — a crucial contribution to workplace safety.
Additional safety features such as an emergency stop system, warning lights compliant with EN 50191, conductive ESD mats, and comprehensive protective and isolation devices ensure maximum safety during daily operation.
For optimal working conditions, the innovative erfi RGB LED lighting system is sensor-based, contactless, and integrated directly into the top light profile, saving valuable workspace.
A key component of the system is the intelligent test software CANDY Power, which transforms the test bench into an Industry 4.0-capable testing platform. It enables centralized management of test planning, execution, statistical data, and traceability. A single test plan can be deployed simultaneously across multiple systems – ideal for serial development and scaling.
With CANDY Power, the test bench becomes a smart testing platform.
By partnering with NIO, erfi gains not only a major player in e-mobility but also a visionary innovation partner. We are proud to contribute our expertise and solutions to enhancing quality assurance and efficiency in high-voltage development.
Our Conclusion:
With this customized testing solution, we have created a safe, ergonomic, and digitally networked environment for automated functional testing — another important step toward the industrial future of e-mobility.
We thank NIO GmbH for their trust in erfi and look forward to many more exciting projects ahead.
